For 70 years strong, St. James’ Episcopal Church has been a welcoming spiritual home for all kinds of Austinites. Today’s St. James’ is an intentionally diverse, and inclusive family of faith that practices radical welcome, fosters belonging, and celebrates all of God’s children, wherever they are in their journey of faith.
The people of St. James’ have consciously responded to God’s call to be a dynamic multicultural community, built on the church’s African-American heritage. Since 1941 we have been informed and inspired by the lives and works of our founders and builders. We seek to bear witness and serve as an example to all churches within the Episcopal tradition.
We are a joyful church that values and glorifies God and all of his creation in a constant spirit of love. We accept everyone as Christ bids us to do and seek to create a safe place for each individual who seeks to belong to the family of faith. Our commitments to diversity and radical welcome create binds that give the church integrity and equip St. James’ to serve the community, spreading God’s love and improving the lives of people in need, in Austin and the world.
