Phenomenal Women in February and March

February – As Valentine’s Day falls on our regularly second Tuesday of the month meeting date, this month we will join the congregation in Founders’ Hall on Tuesday, February 21st for the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper instead of having our regular meeting.

March – Sharon Elmore will be our host on March 13th, and has arranged to have a special guest speaker. Hospice Austin Chaplain David Zuniga, director of the educational outreach program On Our Own Terms,  will present the highly acclaimed, heartwarming documentary Except for Six which follows the last 3 months of a hospice patient’s life. After the viewing the film, David will share information and insights about the last stages of life, hospice care, advance directives, life-sustaining treatments, and the crucial decisions and legal preparations that need to be made while we’re able. The meeting will be held from 7-9 at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest. Because of the special location, dinner will not be a part of our meeting in March.

Please contact Colleen Waller at cwaller@austin.rr.com or 401-3985 with any questions.

Church Women United Celebrates World Day of Prayer

March 2, 2012 9:30 a.m. Saint James’ Episcopal Church 1941 Webberville Rd. 78721 A Worldwide Movement of Christian Women The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer and service. • It is a movement initiated and carried out by women in more than 170 countries and regions. • It is a movement symbolized by an annual day of celebration – the first Friday of March – to which all people are welcome. • It is a movement which brings together women of various races, cultures and traditions in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year. Through World Day of Prayer, women affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and that both have immeasurable influence in the world. The motto of the World Day of Prayer is “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action”. 2012 Malaysia The 2012 World Day of Prayer will be held on Friday the 2nd of March and will be prepared by the women of Malaysia with the theme “Let Justice Prevail”. Malaysia is a nation of diverse cultures, races and religions. About 7% of Malaysians are Christians. Malaysia is full of modern cities, among which Kuala Lumpur is ever growing outwards and upwards. These are striding contrast to idyllic resorts, historic cities such as Melaka and Penang, colonial hill resorts, long houses of Sabah & Sarawak, and an expanse of rainforest which covers around 70% of the land area. Parts of this dense jungle are still unexplored because of their inaccessibility. Malaysia is also a land of rice paddy fields, rubber and oil palm estates, human settlements on river banks and sea shores, and high rise condominiums.
