Now Hiring! Minister of Music

St. James’ Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas is seeking a Minister of Music to be responsible for its vibrant and diverse music program, grounded by a liturgical music tradition and uniquely influenced by the church’s African American heritage.  The position requires expertise within a wide range of choral literature, strong choral directing and choral development skills, and strong keyboard skills.

Specific duties will include:

  • Planning the service music for the 10:15AM Sunday morning worship service through selection of appropriate hymns, anthems and special music offerings
  • Rehearsing the adult volunteer choir one weeknight and Sunday morning warm-up
  • Instructing choir members on proper singing technique, and vocal health
  • Playing a keyboard instrument for the 10:15 worship service and serving as a substitute musician for the other services, as needed
  • Expanding the scope of the current music ministry within the parish and the broader community
