Liturgical Ministries Trainings 2020

Here are the 2020 dates for Liturgical Ministries Trainings. We are hoping that ushers, lectors, intercessors, adult acolytes, and EMs will attend at least 2 out of 4 trainings over the course of 2020. We will be taking attendance to see how close we get to that goal.

At each training, we aim to do more than housekeeping; we will try to prepare you theologically for serving in the season ahead. So, we hope to keep these trainings fun and informative and always new (even if we are not training people into many changes in practice).

At some yet-to-be-scheduled date early in the year, we will have an usher/greeter training specifically on their roles in the emergency plan and the new visitor plan.

Upcoming Liturgical Trainings

January 11, 10 am – 12 pm: Season after Epiphany with a Lenten Preview

RSVP here

This training is for ushers, lectors, intercessors, adult acolytes, and EMs. It is always great to have reps from the Altar Guild present. Everyone will be introduced to the season(s) ahead, reminded of best practices (including a few elements of the new Emergency Plan), and there will be an opportunity to practice particular elements of Jim Harrington’s ordination service in the last 20 minutes or so.

April 4, 10 am – 12 pm: Holy Week

RSVP here

This training is for ushers, lectors, intercessors, adult acolytes, and EMs, who are serving in Holy Week and those who are simply interested in learning. As always, it’s great to have reps from the Altar Guild present. We will dive into the peculiarities of the Holy Week services (theology and enactment). A thurifer (incense bearer) review will be a component of this training.

September 12, 10 am – 12 pm: The Best Practices Practice

This training is the most hands-on training of the year. Want to learn how to play a new role? Want to get some practice into your muscle memory? Join us.

November 14, 10 am – 12 pm: Advent and the Bishop’s Visit

The rhythm of the service changes in Advent. This training will orient ushers, lectors, intercessors, adult acolytes, and EMs to these changes, and a brief rehearsal for Bishop Doyle’s visit on Founders Day, December 6, will happen in the last 20 minutes of our time together. Advent is also a time when we have many visitors. We will talk about how those serving in visible roles in the service can be helpful in connecting with visitors.
