The Episcopal church, established shortly after the American Revolution, has its roots in the Anglican Church. The vibrancy of the Anglican Communion reflects the lives of its congregants and their commitment to God’s mission in the world. Our liturgy retains ancient structure and traditions and is celebrated in many languages.

Seminary of the Southwest forms men and women for the service of Christ in lay or ordained ministry within the church and the larger society for the work they are called to do. Huston-Tillotson University

Huston-Tillotson University is an historically black university chartered in 1877 and located in central Austin. Ties between St. James’ and HTU stretch back to our founding in 1941 by a group of students and faculty not welcome in other Austin churches. We maintain a close connection to HTU both in spirit and in work.
